Six months passed before the high-profile trials officially commenced at the state supreme court downtown.
The courtroom was packed with journalists,
legal analysts,

Arthur Mercer sat at the defense table,
dressed in a drab grey prison jumpsuit,

Beside him sat Vivian,
out on bail but looking thin,

She described how Vivian had attempted to plant the family necklace in her locker to orchestrate her immediate arrest.
“And why did Mrs. Vivian Mercer want you removed from the home so urgently?”
the prosecutor asked.
“Because I was protecting Mrs. Clara Mercer’s secondary journal,”
Elena answered firmly,
her voice ringing clearly throughout the quiet courtroom.
“A journal that contained undeniable proof of corporate fraud committed by both defendants.”
The defense attorneys attempted to cross-examine her,

extortion,
and destruction of corporate records,
receiving a sentence of twenty years in state prison.
Vivian Mercer,
