Daniel was beside her.
Elena stood across the room.
The newborn slept peacefully.
Marcus ran to Mia.
She wrapped her arms around him.
"Daddy."
Marcus closed his eyes.
"I'm here."
Elena watched them.
"I'm sorry."
Marcus looked at her.
"I don't forgive you."
"I know."
"But thank you for keeping them alive."
Elena nodded.
Then the doors opened.
Evelyn entered.
Behind her were armed men.
Victoria stood beside her.
Marcus stepped forward.
"Let them go."
Evelyn smiled.
"Activate the system."
"No."
She raised her weapon toward Mia.
Marcus stopped.
Victoria whispered:
"Do it."
Marcus looked at his sister.
"You don't have to obey her."
Victoria's eyes flickered.
For the first time, doubt appeared.
Evelyn noticed.
"Victoria."
Victoria didn't move.
Evelyn raised her gun.
Victoria stepped between her and Marcus.
A shot exploded.
Victoria fell.
Marcus caught her.
Evelyn escaped.
Victoria looked at him.
"I was always jealous of you."
Marcus shook his head.
"You were my sister."
She smiled faintly.

Then she closed her eyes.
