Chapter 15 - THE RIVER CAMERAThe biggest break came from boring municipal infrastructure.
A traffic camera covered the intersection six blocks from the river access.
At 12:36 a.m. Saturday, Ben’s pickup passed toward the river.
At 12:39, a white Walker Brothers van followed.
At 1:02, only the van returned.
Resolution was not good enough to identify drivers.
But company GPS records existed for commercial insurance.
Shane had forgotten the older van still carried a basic fleet tracker.
The tracker placed Van 2 near Ben’s house at 11:58 p.m.
Then near the river at 12:42.
Then back near Shane’s apartment at 1:21.
Shane was the assigned driver of Van 2 that week.
Could someone else use it?
Yes.
Did Shane claim anyone did?
No.
Initially he had claimed he went back to Ben’s house around one and never went to the river.
Now his lawyer revised:
Shane had driven near the river searching for Ben after receiving the text.
But the text was sent before the truck and van traveled there.
Why would he search the river access specifically before anyone knew the truck was there?
Madsen said Ben had frequented that location.
