Part 15

Robert didn't start with the financial fraud. He started with Lily.

He pulled out medical reports from the pediatricians, detailing the stress-induced hives Lily had developed during her time with Jason.

He presented school records, testimonies from her teachers about how she whimpered whenever Jason's name was mentioned.

"Your Honor," Robert's voice resonated through the courtroom, clear and powerful.

"A father is meant to be a shield. Mr. Vance used his child as a weapon to torment his wife."

Jason’s lawyer stood up, waving his hands.

"Objection! Unsubstantiated claims! This is a bitter divorce tactic!"

"I have the audio recordings, Your Honor," Robert countered smoothly, not even looking back at the man.

"Recorded legally under state law, where Mr. Vance explicitly states he will make sure the child 'forgets her mother's face' if my client doesn't sign over her inheritance."

The courtroom went dead silent.

Jason's lawyer slowly sat back down, his face turning a deep shade of red.

The judge looked at the digital drive Robert submitted.

"Play it," she ordered.

The clerk pressed play, and Jason’s voice filled the room.

It was loud, abusive, and dripping with malice.

"You are nothing without me, Elena. I will take Lily, and I will bury you so deep you’ll never see the sun again."

I sat perfectly still, watching the judge's expression harden into stone.

I looked across the aisle at Jason.

He was staring at his own hands, his face completely drained of color.

His mother was covering her face with a handkerchief, pretending to weep, but I knew she was just hiding from the shame.

"Is there more, Mr. Robert?" the judge asked, her voice dropping an octave.

"Much more, Your Honor," Robert said, pulling out a second manila folder.

"Let us discuss the financial stability of the home Mr. Vance claims he can provide for his daughter."

This was the final blow.

The financial records showing that Jason’s company was under federal investigation for fraud, and that his personal accounts were being frozen by the state.
