Part 27

The next morning, Robert and I stood in the private vault room of the Helvetic Trust Bank in downtown.

The air was silent, smelling of heavy steel and air filtration systems.

The bank manager, a polite man who asked no questions after seeing Robert’s legal authorization and my possession of the physical key, stepped back.

"You have thirty minutes, Ms. Elena," he said, closing the heavy privacy door behind him.

My hands shook slightly as I inserted the silver key into the lock of Box 884.

Click.

The heavy metal drawer slid open smoothly.

Inside was a single, sleek black flash drive and a stack of printed bank routing numbers.

Robert immediately pulled out a secure, air-gapped laptop from his briefcase.

"Let's see what Jason died trying to hide," he murmured, plugging the drive into the computer.

The screen flashed with an encryption prompt. It required an eight-digit password.

"Any ideas?" Robert asked, looking at me.

I thought back to Jason’s vanity, his absolute self-absorption.

"Try his birthday," I suggested. "Backwards."

Robert typed in the numbers. Access Denied.

"Try Lily's birthday," I said, my heart pounding.

Access Denied.

I closed my eyes, remembering the entry in the diary. 'He thinks I don't know where the money is coming from.'

Jason loved the date he signed his biggest deal—the day he thought he became a billionaire.

"Try October twelfth, twenty-twenty-two," I said softly. "10122022."

Robert entered the digits, and the laptop let out a soft beep.

The screen flooded with thousands of files.

Robert’s eyes widened behind his glasses, his face draining of all color as he scrolled through the documents.

"My God, Elena," he whispered, his voice trembling.

"This isn't just corporate fraud. These are offshore accounts funding illegal international weapons trading, political bribes to federal senators, and cartel money laundering."

"Victor Sterling isn't just a corrupt businessman. He’s the financial spine of a global criminal network."

"And Jason had everything documented."
