Part 15: The Wedding
Julia and Ethan got married on a quiet Saturday in October, two years after Ethan first proposed.
It wasn’t a big wedding. Just close friends, Mia as the maid of honor, and a small ceremony by the lake.
Mia walked Julia down the aisle.
When Ethan saw them coming, his eyes filled with tears. He had waited patiently for years without pressure, and now the moment had finally come.
After the ceremony, during the small reception, Mia pulled Ethan aside.
Mia
“Thank you for never trying to replace my dad. And for loving my mom the way she deserves.”
Ethan smiled.
Ethan
“Thank you for letting me be part of your life. I know it wasn’t easy for you.”
Mia shrugged.
Mia
“You’re okay. For a stepdad.”
Ethan laughed.
Ethan
“I’ll take that as a compliment.”
That night, after everyone had left, Julia and Ethan sat on the porch of their new house — the one they had bought together. Mia was already asleep upstairs.
Julia leaned against Ethan’s shoulder.
Julia
“I never thought I would get married again.”
Ethan kissed the top of her head.
Ethan
“I never thought I would meet someone worth waiting for.”
Julia looked up at the stars.
