Chapter 39 - The Wedding Plans

|

Planning a wedding with Grace and Evelyn in the same room was a masterclass in diplomatic negotiation.

We were sitting around the dining table at the river house, surrounded by catering menus, floral arrangements, and guest lists. Elara was wisely letting the two matriarchs battle it out over the centerpieces.

"The orchids are too corporate," Grace argued, stabbing a finger at a glossy brochure. "It's a wedding by the river, Evelyn. We need wildflowers. Sunflowers, daisies, something that actually looks alive."

"Wildflowers look chaotic, Grace," Evelyn countered, adjusting her glasses with a pristine sigh. "Orchids are elegant. They project stability."

"We aren't projecting stability to a board of directors, Evelyn! We are celebrating two kids falling in love!" Grace shot back.

Noah and I sat at the far end of the table, silently drinking our beers and staying entirely out of the crossfire.

"Are you going to intervene?" Noah whispered to me.

"Absolutely not," I whispered back. "I value my life."

Elara finally took pity on the situation. She reached across the table and gently pulled the brochures away from both women.

"How about white hydrangeas?" Elara suggested calmly. "They are elegant, but they grow naturally near the water. A compromise."

Grace and Evelyn looked at each other, sizing up the proposal.

"Hydrangeas are acceptable," Evelyn conceded gracefully.

"Fine. Hydrangeas," Grace agreed, crossing her arms.

Noah caught my eye and grinned. He had found a woman who could effortlessly manage the two most terrifying, formidable women in our lives. She was definitely the one.
