Independent valuation strengthened negotiation.
Related-party packages removed.
Mother consulting fee:
Gone.
Delphine transition contract:
Gone.
Property leases:
Repriced separately after appraisal.
Employee protections:
Improved but not perfect.
No pension termination for three years.
Minimum transition packages for affected headquarters staff.
Operations mostly unchanged.
The deal was better.
That annoyed me.
Not because I wanted a worse deal.
Because part of me wanted Mother’s scheme attached to a transaction so corrupt it deserved to collapse.
Reality refused.
Crestline still might be the right buyer.
The special committee asked me for information about operations.
I could provide facts.
No vote.
No advocacy.
Good.
Then Mother’s lawyer sent a letter:
Everett’s objections have now been satisfied, demonstrating the sale was always commercially sound.

Jonah said:
“Ignore.”
I did.
The committee commissioned a second fairness opinion.

Not spectacular.
Fair.
Then employee council asked:
What happens to cafeteria staff?
Crestline promised no broad frontline layoffs in first year.
Contractual? Partially.
Could enforce through purchase agreement.
Negotiation continued.
Meanwhile, Willa’s life.
School resumed.
She had missed two days.
Teacher knew only safety issue.
No family details.
At recess, Willa slapped a doll during pretend play.
Teacher told Dr. Chen.
Not panic.
Children reenact.
Dr. Chen asked:
“What happened to doll?”
“Her aunt was mean.”
“What did doll do?”
“Called Daddy.”
“What did Daddy do?”
“Nothing.”

Then Willa changed it.
“Daddy says stop.”

Then my anger diversion formally began.

Delphine had bruising from fall.

I accepted diversion:

No “defending daughter” speech.
Then company conduct investigator interviewed me.
“Do you believe you should return to family stewardship?”
My instinct:
Yes.
Then I stopped.
“Not automatically.”
“Why?”
“Because I reacted exactly how Mother expected.”
“Does that mean she was right to provoke you?”
“No.”
“Does it mean your conduct created governance risk?”
“Yes.”
Good.
Then:
“What would make you ready?”
“I don’t know.”
That uncertainty cost me pride.
Useful.
Then Delphine requested plea discussions.
Her lawyer said she might testify about Mother’s plan in exchange for consideration.
Mother called her a traitor through counsel.
Of course.
Delphine had choices.
Cooperation could reduce penalties.
Not redemption.
Then Mother filed civil suit claiming the special committee unlawfully removed her.
Not criminal.
Governance litigation.
She was entitled.
Court set hearing in three weeks.
She sought temporary reinstatement.
Denied pending evidence.
No instant permanent loss.
Then Aunt Cecily called.
“Your mother says you’re trying to take everything.”
“Am I?”
“She says family distributions, company, house.”
“None of those claims are true.”
“I know now.”
Then:
“Why didn’t I stop Delphine?”
Harder.
“Ask yourself.”
“I was scared of your mother.”
“You were also an adult.”
Silence.
“Yes.”
Good.
No absolution.
Then Willa asked whether Cecily could come over.
She liked Cecily.
I hesitated.
Cecily had been present and silent.
Dr. Chen recommended supervised ordinary contact if Willa wanted.
So Cecily came for thirty minutes.
She apologized to Willa:
“I should have helped when Delphine hit you.”
Willa said:
“Yeah.”
No hug required.
Then asked her to play blocks.
