CHAPTER 5: WHAT REALLY MATTERS

Khloe lay in a quiet recovery room, pale but peaceful.

Marcus sat beside her, holding their newborn son in his arms.

“He has your eyes,” Khloe whispered weakly.

Marcus shook his head softly.

“He has your strength.”

Tears slipped down her temples.

“I thought I lost him…”

“You didn’t,” Marcus said, his voice steady but full.
“And you won’t lose me either.”

For the first time, there were no walls between them.

No distractions.

No outside interference.

Just a family that had almost been broken—

and chose to survive.

Marcus leaned down, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead.

“I should’ve protected you sooner.”

Khloe looked at him.

May you like

“You are now.”

And that was enough.
