Chapter 14 - The Vault of Secrets

They slipped inside Warehouse 4.

Rows upon rows of wooden crates filled the cavernous space.

Weapons, contraband, and stolen money.

At the far end of the warehouse stood a glass-walled office overlooking the floor.

Inside sat Dominic Rossetti himself.

A heavyset man with slicked-back grey hair and a scar running down his cheek, counting stacks of cash.

“There he is,” Adrien murmured, raising his rifle.

Suddenly, the alarms blared.

Red emergency lights flashed violently across the warehouse.

“Trap!” Adrien cursed.

Footsteps echoed from every direction as dozens of Rossetti’s men poured out from behind the shipping crates.

“Well, your intel was great, but their hospitality stinks,” Maya shouted over the blaring siren.

“Get behind the container!” Adrien ordered, firing rapid rounds into the advancing crowd.

Maya scrambled behind a heavy steel shipping container, drawing her silver pistol.

Bullets sparked against the metal all around her.

She took a breath, aimed carefully at the nearest gunman rushing toward her flank, and pulled the trigger.

The man dropped.

“Not bad, Collins!” Adrien yelled across the gap, taking down two more men with terrifying precision.

“Thanks! I practice on my alarm clock every morning!” she yelled back.

Suddenly, a heavy hand grabbed Maya by the shoulder from behind.

She spun around, throwing a punch, but a massive enforcer caught her fist.

He grinned wickedly, raising a knife toward her throat.
