Chapter 16 - The Final Showdown

Adrien stepped in front of Maya instantly, shielding her with his own body.
“Well, well, well,” Rossetti sneered, his voice echoing off the corrugated metal walls.
“Adrien Moretti. Walking right into my trap for the sake of a little housekeeper.”
“Put the gun down, Rossetti,” Adrien said coldly, his hand resting on his hidden holster.
“Or what? You’ll kill me?” Rossetti laughed darkly.
“My men have you surrounded, Adrien. This empire belongs to me now.”
Maya peered around Adrien’s broad shoulder.
She scanned the rafters above Rossetti’s office.
A massive, heavy steel chain holding a pallet of heavy crates hung directly over the balcony.
And right beside the chain was a pneumatic control box with a blinking red manual release lever.
Maya’s eyes lit up.
She tapped Adrien’s arm softly.
“Distract him,” she whispered.
Adrien didn’t look back, trusting her completely.
“You always were arrogant, Dominic,” Adrien spoke loudly, taking a slow step forward to draw Rossetti’s attention.
“You think numbers matter when you’re fighting a Moretti?”
“Talk is cheap, Adrien—”
While Rossetti was focused entirely on Adrien, Maya darted to the side.
She scrambled up an iron ladder leading to the upper catwalks.
She moved like a shadow, racing across the metal grating above the office.
Rossetti raised his revolver, aiming right at Adrien’s chest.
“Goodbye, Moretti.”
Clank!
Maya slammed her entire body weight against the pneumatic release lever on the catwalk.
The heavy steel chain snapped with a deafening screech.
A pallet loaded with two tons of heavy iron pipes plummeted straight down from the ceiling.
Right onto Rossetti’s office balcony.
CRASH!
The roof of the office caved in under the massive weight, burying Rossetti and his guards beneath a mountain of metal.
Silence fell over the warehouse instantly.
Adrien stared at the wreckage, then looked up toward the catwalk.
Maya leaned over the railing, dusting off her hands with a bright, triumphant smile.

“Next time,” Maya called down, her voice echoing in the vast space.
“Call a plumber before you start a war.”
