Chapter 11 - The Final ConfessionsThe legal proceedings moved with an efficiency that surprised even the most cynical legal observers.

Faced with the overwhelming mountain of digital evidence collected during the gala lockdown,
Julian's high-priced defense lawyers quickly realized they had no viable strategy.
One by one,
the co-conspirators began to turn on each other,
trading confessions for reduced prison sentences.
Julian,
however,
remained stubborn,
refusing to speak to investigators or acknowledge the severity of his crimes.
He still held onto the delusional belief that his family's ghost network would somehow rescue him from his fate.
My father and I were requested to attend the final deposition hearing,
held in a secure federal facility deep within the city's judicial district.
When I walked into the interrogation room,
Julian was sitting at the metal table,
his hands shackled to the floor anchor.
He looked terrible;
his expensive clothes had been replaced by a standard orange jumpsuit,
and his hair was messy and unwashed.
The arrogance that had defined his existence had been replaced by a hollow,
haunted look that made him look ten years older.
He looked up as I entered,
a flash of the old anger flickering in his eyes before dying out completely.
"You destroyed everything,"
he whispered,
his voice raspy from days of silence.
"My family,
our legacy,
our entire life...
gone in a single night."
"You destroyed yourself,
Julian,"
I replied,
sitting across from him with a calm,
composed demeanor.
"We simply provided the room where you could no longer hide from your actions."
He looked down at his shackled hands,
the heavy metal chains clinking softly against the table surface.
"Why did you do it?"
he asked,
his voice barely audible.
"Why go to such extreme lengths just to catch us?"
"Because people like you think the world belongs to you,"
I stated firmly,
looking directly into his eyes.
"You think you can hurt people,
steal their futures,
and buy your way out of the consequences."
"We wanted to show you,"
I paused,
letting the words hang heavily in the small room,
May you like
"that no matter how high you climb,
the law can always reach you."
