Chapter 5 - The Transformation of the BallroomThe luxurious atmosphere of the gala completely dissolved,

replaced by the cold,

sterile reality of an interrogation room.

The soft,

warm lighting of the crystal chandeliers suddenly flickered,

shifting to a harsh,

bright white illumination that exposed every detail.

There was nowhere left to hide,

no dark corners for the corrupt to whisper their secrets.

The guests began to realize that their wealth could not buy them a way out of this fortress.

Several tech executives checked their phones,

only to find that all cellular signals and Wi-Fi networks had been completely jammed.

"We are completely cut off,"

one woman cried,

clutching her diamond necklace as if it could save her.

"There is no signal,

no service,

nothing!"

Julian stepped back until his spine pressed against one of the gilded pillars,

his breath coming in short,

sharp gasps.

He looked at me as if I were a ghost,

unable to reconcile the bleeding woman he had mocked with the commanding figure before him.

I moved to the center of the ballroom,

standing elevated on the small stage where the orchestra had been performing.

I picked up the microphone from the conductor's stand,

ensuring that every word I spoke would be heard clearly by everyone present.

"Ladies and gentlemen,"

I began,

my voice echoing with absolute authority through the state-of-the-art speakers.

"Please remain seated on the floor,

and do not attempt to touch the security barriers."

A wealthy real estate developer stepped forward,

his face red with anger as he pointed a shaking finger at me.

"You can't do this to us!"

he shouted.

"We are the backbone of this city's economy!"

"You are the parasites of this city's economy,"

I corrected him instantly,

my gaze locking onto his eyes until he looked away in shame.

"Tonight,

the accounts are being settled,

and every single transaction will be brought into the light."

I looked back down at Julian,

who was now trying to blend into the crowd of terrified billionaires.

"Julian Vance,"

I called out,

his name ringing through the hall like a thunderclap.

"Your family has spent the last twenty years stealing,

bribing,

and destroying lives to build your empire."

"And tonight,"

I paused,

May you like

letting the weight of the moment sink in,

"your debt is finally due."
