Chapter 7 - THE SIEGE OF THE ESTATE

They moved silently through the dark, cavernous hallways of the mansion.
The air was already thick with the acrid smell of gunpowder and smoke. Outside the high arched windows, tactical flashlights cut through the heavy fog as Adrian's loyal guards engaged Moretti's mercenaries in the courtyard.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Two masked gunmen dressed in tactical gear suddenly turned the corner of the grand staircase, their weapons raised.
"THERE THEY ARE! GET THE CHILD!" one gunman shouted.
Adrian didn't hesitate. He stepped in front of Hannah and Lucas like a wall of solid iron, raising his weapon and firing three precise rounds with terrifying accuracy.
THWACK! THWACK! THWACK!
Both gunmen collapsed onto the marble floor, their weapons skittering away into the shadows.
"Keep moving!" Adrian barked, grabbing Hannah’s arm and guiding her toward the hidden service elevator in the west wing that led directly to the reinforced subterranean bunker.
As they reached the heavy steel doors of the panic room, a shadow stepped out from behind a stone pillar.
It wasn't a mercenary.
It was Victoria Sterling.
She was holding a small silver pistol in her shaking hands, her face distorted by manic desperation.
"Victoria?" Adrian stopped, his gun leveled at her chest. "What are you doing down here?!"
"I brought them here, Adrian!" Victoria screamed, her voice cracking hysterical in the dark corridor. "The Morettis promised me full control of the Sterling-Vale merger if I disabled the electronic security codes on the east gate! You ruined everything when you chose this... this street trash over my family!"
Hannah gasped, pulling Lucas closer to her heart as she realized the depth of the betrayal. Isabel's own sister had sold out the estate, endangering her own nephew for greed and corporate power.
"You sold out your own blood, Victoria," Adrian said, his voice dropping into a deadly pitch. "You put Isabel's son in danger."
"He's not my family!" Victoria shrieked, raising her pistol toward Hannah. "If he dies, the trust dies! I get everything!"
POP!
A single gunshot echoed through the corridor.
Victoria’s eyes went wide with shock. Her pistol dropped from her hand, clattering against the concrete floor. She gasped, grabbing her shoulder where blood was rapidly blooming through her silk blouse.
Behind her stood Theresa Marino, holding a heavy revolver with two hands, her face set like stone.
"You were always a disgrace to your sister, Victoria," Theresa said coldly, lowering the gun.
Adrian grabbed the steel handle of the panic room door, pulling it open and shoving Hannah and Lucas inside the heavily reinforced, bomb-proof bunker.
"Stay inside! Lock the door from the inside!" Adrian ordered Hannah.
"Adrian, no!" Hannah cried out, reaching for his hand. "Come inside with us!"
Adrian looked into her hazel eyes, his expression softening for one fleeting, beautiful second. He reached out, his warm, calloused fingers gently stroking her cheek before brushing against his sleeping son's forehead.

"I have to clean my house, Hannah," Adrian said softly. "I won't let any monsters threaten our family again."
He slammed the massive steel door shut, and the heavy electronic locks engaged with a deep, final CLICK.
