Part 25

Days turned into a week, and a peaceful routine began to settle over the villa. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, Emma woke up without the immediate fear of death hanging over her head.
Her mornings were spent in the sun-drenched nursery, helping the estate's nanny care for little Leo. The baby boy was thriving, his chubby cheeks filling out and his bright eyes following Emma whenever she walked into the room. She found a deep, therapeutic solace in holding him, his innocent laughter acting as a balm for her fractured soul.
Adrian watched them from the doorway one afternoon. He had been working endlessly from his private study, coordinating with Hector to permanently secure their global assets, but he always made time to watch Emma with his son.
"You're good with him," Adrian said, stepping into the room. He had discarded his formal suits for a simple black linen shirt, looking relaxed yet undeniably powerful.
Emma smiled, gently rocking Leo in her arms as the baby drifted off to sleep. "He makes it easy. He's a survivor, just like his father."
Adrian walked over, standing close enough that she could feel the heat radiating from his body. He looked down at his sleeping son, a soft look overtaking his usually stern features. "His mother died when he was just a few weeks old. A medical complication. I thought I could protect him from the darkness of my world by keeping him hidden, but Volkov found a weakness. If it weren't for you, I would have lost the only piece of humanity I had left."
He looked up, his gaze fixing on Emma with an intensity that made it hard for her to breathe. "When I saw you standing in that church, willing to die to protect him... I realized something, Emma."
"What?" she whispered, her heart hammering against her ribs.
"I realized that I don't just owe you a debt," Adrian said, his voice dropping to a low, gravelly register. "I realized that the empire I built, the wealth I accumulated... none of it means anything if I don't have someone to share it with. Someone who has the courage to stand in the fire with me."
May you like
He reached out, his fingers tangling in the silk of her hair, gently tilting her face up toward his. "I've spent my whole life surrounded by people who fear me or want to use me. But you look at me and you see the man, not the myth. I don't want you here just because it's safe, Emma. I want you here because I can't imagine my life without you."
Before she could answer, Adrian leaned down and pressed his lips to hers. The kiss was slow, deep, and filled with a possessive passion that left Emma breathless. She melted into him, her hands gripping his shirt as the last remnants of her doubts washed away in the warmth of his embrace.
