Chapter 10 - FOREVER HOME

That evening, after all the guests had departed and the birthday presents were stacked neatly in the playroom, the estate settled into a blissful, tranquil quiet.

Nathan and I walked up the stairs together to tuck the boys into bed.

Their new bedroom was on the main floor, filled with large windows that let in the soft moonlight and fresh mountain air.

Jacob and Jonah lay side-by-side in twin beds, their eyes heavy with sleep, exhausted from a full day of playing, laughing, and living as normal, happy seven-year-old boys.

I leaned down, kissing Jacob's soft forehead, brushing back his dark curls. "Goodnight, my brave little guy."

"Goodnight, Mommy," Jacob mumbled, curling up with his stuffed puppy.

I walked over to Jonah, tucking his soft duvet around his shoulders, kissing his cheek. "Goodnight, sweet Jonah."

"Goodnight, Mommy," Jonah whispered, his eyes closing. "Thank you for staying."

"I'm never leaving," I promised softly.

Nathan stepped up beside me, holding my hand tightly in his as we stood in the doorway, watching our healthy, beautiful sons drift off into peaceful, dream-filled sleep.

We walked out onto the balcony overlooking the vast, quiet grounds of the estate. The night sky was filled with a million brilliant stars.

Nathan pulled me close, wrapping his dark jacket around my shoulders to keep away the cool night chill, kissing my hair gently.

The mob boss who had once ruled through fear was now a man ruled by love. The simple nanny who had arrived with a worn suitcase had found her true purpose, her true strength, and her true family.

"I love you, Emily," Nathan whispered into the quiet night air.

"I love you too, Nathan," I smiled, looking up at the stars, knowing that no matter what shadows might come, our love would forever keep the light shining bright.
