Chapter 10 - The Unexpected Ally

Daniel was pinned down,
the bullets chipping away,
at the concrete barrier,
sending sharp dust into his face,
he had only a few rounds left,
in the clip,
and time was running out,
for Leo at the hospital,
he felt a deep despair,
creeping into his chest,
wondering if this was the end,
if the corruption would win,
suddenly,
the sound of a roaring motorcycle,
broke through the gunfire,
a sleek black bike,
tore down the highway ramp,
the rider leaning low,
speeding directly toward the shooters,
the rider pulled a weapon,
firing three quick shots,
with perfect precision,
striking one of the gunmen,
in the chest,
dropping him instantly,
the last remaining shooter,
panicked and ran back,
into the delivery truck,
slamming the doors shut,
and speeding away into the rain,
leaving his fallen comrades behind,
the motorcycle skidded to a stop,
right next to Daniel,
the rider took off the helmet,
revealing a familiar face,
it was Sofia,
Daniel's co-auditor from work,
the one he trusted most,
get on,
she shouted over the rain,
we don't have much time,
Daniel stared at her in shock,
how did you know,
he asked,
scrambling onto his feet,
your sister called me,
before you arrived at her house,
Sofia explained quickly,
she knew she was trapped,
she told me everything,
about the syndicate and the drug,
I have the antitoxin right here,
she pointed to a medical bag,
strapped to the back of the bike,
I stole it from the military cache,
before they could destroy it,
Daniel felt a surge of hope,
vibrant and powerful,
he jumped onto the back of the seat,
gripping Sofia's waist tightly,
as she revved the engine,
and tore down the highway,
heading back toward the hospital,
May you like
flying through the storm,
like a black arrow of justice.
