Chapter 10 - THE INTERCEPTED AMBUSH

At exactly 2:00 a.m.,
the quiet streets outside Henry's modest home were disturbed by the arrival of three local police cruisers.
The vehicles drove without their sirens,
their headlights turned off to avoid alerting the occupant of the house to their presence.
The corrupt Chief of Police,
Richard Bradley,
stepped out of the lead vehicle,
a cigar clenched tightly between his teeth.
He had received a furious,
demanding phone call from Nathan Vance an hour earlier,
ordering him to arrest Henry immediately.
"I don't care what you have to do,
Richard,"
Nathan had screamed into the phone,
his voice frantic with drunken rage and bruised pride.
"Drag that old bastard into a cell,
and make sure he stays there until I can get my wife back into this house."
Bradley smiled coldly as his officers surrounded the small,
darkened house,
their weapons drawn and ready for action.
He believed this would be an easy assignment,
a simple matter of intimidating a retired factory worker who had forgotten his place.
He walked toward the front porch,
his heavy boots thumping loudly against the wooden steps as he prepared to kick the door open.
But before his boot could make contact with the wood,
the bright headlights of four massive,
unmarked black SUVs illuminated the street.
The sudden,
blinding light caught the local police officers completely off guard,
causing them to shield their eyes in confusion.
The doors of the SUVs flew open simultaneously,
and twenty heavily armed federal tactical operators emerged into the street.
They were wearing full body armor,
their advanced assault rifles pointed directly at the terrified local police officers.
"Federal agents!
Drop your weapons immediately and step away from the property!"
a booming voice commanded through a megaphone.
Chief Bradley froze in absolute terror,
his cigar dropping from his mouth and landing harmlessly on the wet grass below.
He looked at the tactical gear,
the federal badges gleaming in the headlights,
and realized he was completely outgunned.
"What is the meaning of this?"
Bradley stammered,
his voice trembling as he raised his hands slowly into the air.
"I am the Chief of Police in this town,
and I am currently conducting an official investigation into a kidnapping case."
A tall federal agent stepped forward,
looking at Bradley with an expression of supreme boredom and absolute authority.
"Your jurisdiction has just been permanently revoked,
Chief Bradley,"
the agent said coldly,
producing a federal arrest warrant.
"You are under arrest for federal corruption,
conspiracy to obstruct justice,
and accepting bribes from the Vance family."
The local officers dropped their weapons onto the asphalt,
their confidence vanishing instantly as the handcuffs clicked into place.
Henry watched the entire scene unfold through a remote security feed on his tablet,
a faint smile touching his lips.

The first line of Nathan's defense had been shattered,
and the monster was now completely alone in his grand palace.
