As he grew older
he realized that the most important connections he had were the ones he chose
He surrounded himself with people who were kind and supportive

He was grateful for the love and the support of his father
a man who had learned to be the father he needed

He was no longer an island
he was a part of a landscape that was rich and vibrant
He understood that relationships were a two-way street
that they required effort and trust and honesty
And he was willing to put in the work
to be the kind of friend and family member he wanted to have
He was learning the art of connection
the beauty of being known and understood
And he was loving every moment of it
He was a person who was connected to the world around him
and he was excited to see where those connections would lead
He was a man of his own making
and he was proud of the man he was becoming
