Chapter 7 - The Search for Normalcy

The move to the new city was a transition that felt like stepping out of a long, dark tunnel into a world of vibrant colors

Their new home was smaller

cozier

and lacked the cold, sterile perfection of the Boston mansion

It felt like a real home

a place where people lived and laughed and were allowed to be messy

Leo started at a new school

a place where he was just a student

not the son of a wealthy man with a scandalous stepmother

He made friends

real friends

who didn't care about his background or his money

They shared lunches and homework and dreams for the future

He learned how to be a kid again

to play sports

to argue over music

to just be present in the moment

He loved the anonymity of it all

the ability to walk down the street without anyone staring at him

He felt normal

a feeling he had almost forgotten

He continued his therapy sessions

working through the trauma of his past

learning how to trust again

how to forgive himself for the things he couldn't control

He was a work in progress

but he was a happy work in progress

Richard was also finding his way

throwing himself into his work but also making time for his son

They went on trips together

hikes in the mountains

trips to the coast

creating new memories that would replace the ones he wanted to forget

They talked about the past sometimes

but they focused more on the future

building a life that was honest and true

Leo felt a deep sense of gratitude for everything he had now

a life that was simple and filled with love

He knew that he would never be the same as he was before

but he was okay with that

He was stronger now

more resilient

and more empathetic

He realized that the pain had shaped him

but it didn't define him

He was the architect of his own happiness now

the master of his own fate

He looked forward to the future with excitement

knowing that whatever challenges came his way

he had the strength to overcome them

He was no longer the boy in the shadows

May you like

he was the boy in the light

And he was ready to shine
