Chapter 6 - The Gathering Storm

The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the library walls,

where I spent hours analyzing the Vance financial records.

My son,

whom I had officially named Arthur after my biological father,

was thriving in his new surroundings.

Every time I looked into his bright silver eyes,

I found the strength to keep fighting.

Ethan entered the room carrying a fresh stack of legal briefs,

his face grim.

"Eleanor is changing her strategy,"

he warned,

sitting down in the leather armchair.

"She realized the custody angle failed,

so now she is attacking your identity."

"She has leaked a story to the press claiming you are an imposter trying to extort their family."

I looked at the television screen on the wall,

where a news anchor was speaking.

A picture of my old cleaning uniform was displayed next to a photo of Julian looking sad.

"They are calling me a gold-digger who targeted a wealthy businessman,"

I muttered,

feeling a sting of betrayal.

"Let them talk,"

Ethan said,

his voice dripping with supreme confidence.

"The media means nothing compared to the evidence we hold."

"Tomorrow is the annual Meridian shareholders meeting,

Vivian."

"Eleanor thinks she is going to vote herself into the permanent chairperson seat."

"She believes she controls fifty-one percent of the voting shares through her shell companies."

I looked up from my laptop,

a sudden realization dawning on my mind.

"But she doesn't,"

I said,

my fingers flying across the keyboard.

"Look at this clause in the original corporate charter from nineteen-ninety-five."

"If any share belongs to a missing member of the Wright family,

the voting rights are frozen."

"Until that member is officially found or declared deceased by a federal court."

Ethan leaned forward,

his eyes lighting up with sudden excitement.

"Which means her fifty-one percent is actually a minority vote without your shares,"

he realized.

"Exactly,"

I smiled,

showing him the digital spreadsheet.

"By appearing at that meeting tomorrow,

I can single-handedly block her appointment."

"And I can initiate a full forensic audit of the company's books on the spot."

"It will be a bloodless execution,"

Ethan chuckled,

his silver eyes gleaming in the dim room.

"But we must be careful,

Vivian."

"Eleanor is like a cornered animal right now,

and she will do anything to stop you from entering that building."

"I know,"

I said,

thinking of the long nights I had spent sweeping those floors.

"I know every single entrance,

every service elevator,

and every blind spot in their security grid."

"They think they own that building,

but I am the one who cleaned every inch of it."

Doctor Morrison walked in,

holding a small medical cooler bag in his hands.

"The official DNA results are back from the federal laboratory,"

he announced quietly.

"It is a perfect match,

Vivian."

"You are ninety-nine point nine percent confirmed to be the daughter of Arthur Wright."

"And your son carries the exact same genetic markers."

I held the paper in my hands,

feeling the final piece of my old identity fall away.

I was no longer Vivian Vance,

the discarded and broken cleaning woman.

I was Vivian Wright,

and it was time to take back my family's stolen kingdom.

"Get the car ready for tomorrow morning,"

I told Ethan,

my voice filled with absolute resolve.

"We are going to the Meridian building,

and we are going to end this game once and for all."
