Chapter 11 - The Confrontation with Medicine

The air in the archive room became suffocating,
the smell of old paper turning toxic.
Doctor Morrison took another step forward,
the silver object in his hand revealed as a high-tech tracking device.
"I didn't want it to come to this,
Vivian,"
he sighed,
sounding genuinely disappointed.
"You were supposed to remain the clueless victim until the trust fund was fully unlocked."
"Why?"
Ethan demanded,
stepping in front of me to shield me from the traitor.
"Our father treated you like a brother,
he gave you everything you ever wanted!"
"He gave me scraps!"
Morrison shouted,
his calm demeanor cracking to reveal a deep,
twisted madness.
"Arthur Wright sat on billions while I worked eighteen hours a day saving lives for pennies."
"I discovered the unique silver-eye genetic trait in your family line first,
not him."
"I knew that trait held the key to a massive,
secret biotechnology patent worth trillions."
"So I partnered with Eleanor Vance to split the empire between us twenty-five years ago."
"I provided the medical means to steal Vivian,
and Eleanor provided the financial cover."
"But Eleanor got greedy,"
the doctor hissed,
his eyes narrowing with intense fury.
"She tried to eliminate me from the deal by marrying Julian to Vivian to bypass my share."
"That's why you revealed Julian's vasectomy in the delivery room,"
I realized,
my voice steady.
"You weren't saving me from them,
you were just protecting your own cut of the money."
"Exactly,"
Morrison smiled coldly,
adjusting his glasses with a flick of his wrist.
"With Julian out of the picture and Eleanor facing prison,
I was going to adopt you back into society."
"I would become the legal guardian of your son and the sole administrator of the Wright patent."
"But you had to go digging into old payroll records,
ruining my perfect retirement plan."
"You won't get away with this,"
Ethan warned,
his hand slowly reaching for the emergency radio on his belt.
"Don't bother,
Ethan,"
the doctor chuckled,
holding up his tracking device which was flashing red.
"Eleanor's remaining security team is already on their way down to this basement right now."
"I told them you were here trying to destroy evidence of your own financial crimes."
"By the time they arrive,
there will be a tragic accident in this dusty old archive room."
"A sudden fire caused by old electrical wiring,
destroying the files and the remaining heirs."
"And I will emerge as the heroic doctor who tried to save you but failed."
Suddenly,
the sound of heavy footsteps echoed from the concrete hallway outside the heavy doors.
The heavy iron doors began to rattle violently as men tried to force their way inside.
"It's over,
children,"
Doctor Morrison whispered,
backing away toward a secondary service exit.
"Thank you for finding the ledger for me,
it saves me the trouble of burning it later."
He slammed the secondary door shut,
locking it from the outside with a heavy iron bar.
We were trapped inside the archive room,
with Eleanor's mercenaries beating down the front entrance.

The smell of smoke began to drift through the ventilation shafts,
proving the doctor had already started the fire.
