Chapter 15 - EVERETT’S CONSEQUENCES

Everett was not charged with Dorcas’s assault.

Correct.

He was investigated for:

False statements in custody preparation.

Potential coordination in manipulating a child witness.

Trust-related misrepresentations.

The strongest evidence showed he knew Dorcas was practicing questions and wanted leverage from Quincy’s statements.

The recording also showed he repeatedly rejected teaching Quincy false physical-abuse claims.

That mattered.

Prosecutors declined the most serious manipulation charge.

They accepted a plea on a limited obstruction-related offense involving undisclosed coordination around the planned evaluator and false certification in a trust reimbursement review.

Probation.

Community service.

No incarceration.

Professional consequences.

His employer rescinded the Denver role.

Not because he had a criminal mastermind conviction.

Because public trust and judgment mattered for an executive position.

He found another job later.

Smaller company.

Lower title.

Did well.

At his plea hearing, Everett said:

“I believed that because I objected to my mother’s worst ideas, I was not responsible for the process I was helping create.”

That was accurate.

Then:

“I was wrong.”

Good.

He did not ask me to testify for leniency.

Did not ask me to tell the court he was a good father.

He faced his own record.

That mattered.

Our divorce finalized two months later.

He cried.

So did I.

No hug.

No second chance.

No revenge speech.

We walked out different doors.
