Chapter 20 - THE TRUST

Quincy learned about the Wexley Descendant Trust at eighteen.

Independent trustee.

Attorney.

Financial adviser.

Me.

Everett attended part by Quincy’s choice.

The trustee explained:

You do not own Wexley Manufacturing.

Your trust holds a minority economic interest among other investments.

You cannot fire executives.

You cannot withdraw everything.

You may receive distributions under defined standards.

Family Representative Consultation had been reformed after Dorcas.

No parent nominated family insiders anymore.

Independent beneficiary advocate instead.

Quincy asked:

“So Grandma nearly ruined everyone over reimbursement forms and consultation rights?”

I laughed.

“Not exactly.”

Everett said:

“She wanted influence.”

Quincy:

“Same thing with better vocabulary.”

Fair.

The unsupported Dorcas reimbursements had been repaid years earlier.

The trust grew.

Boringly.

Investments.

Taxes.

Statements.

No hidden kingdom.

Quincy used permitted distributions for college.

No shame.

No entitlement.

He studied film sound design.

Of course everyone thought the camera inspired him.

It did not.

He liked movies.

People need to stop turning trauma into career astrology.
