Chapter 21 - THE DINOSAUR GOES TO COLLEGE

Quincy took Dino to college.

I discovered this because I helped unpack.

“You’re eighteen.”

“He’s vintage.”

“He smells like smoke.”

“He has history.”

The stuffed dinosaur sat on a bookshelf beside expensive audio equipment.

No hidden camera.

Just Dino.

Everett came later with a mini fridge.

They argued about where to put it.

Normal.

Before leaving, Everett hugged Quincy.

“Call me.”

“No.”

“Text.”

“Maybe.”

“I pay tuition supplements.”

“Trust pays some.”

“I regret teaching you financial accuracy.”

I laughed.

We left.

In the parking lot Everett said:

“Did you ever think we’d get here?”

“Yes.”

He looked at me.

“I didn’t.”

“That’s because you used to think every hard thing needed a strategy.”

He smiled sadly.

“True.”

We had become co-parents who could stand beside each other without reopening the marriage.

That took years.

Worth it.
