Chapter 15 - THE WEDDING THAT NEVER HAPPENED

The venue sued initially.

We settled.

Nonrefundable deposits.

Vendors.

Some costs mine.

Some Lorna’s.

Family reserve audit determined:

$312,000 properly eligible under preliminary event rules.

$168,000 improperly allocated above authority.

Restored by me personally and by Lorna under settlement.

Not because Estelle “paid for the wedding.”

Accounting was messier.

Important.

I did not throw a revenge party.

Did not burn the dress.

Did not send invitations reading CANCELED DUE TO EVIL STEPMOTHER.

I went back to work.

Boring.

Healthy.

Then six months later, Estelle asked:

“Are you going to marry someone?”

“Not soon.”

“Ever?”

“Maybe.”

“Will I meet them?”

“Yes.”

“Before wedding?”

I laughed.

“Definitely.”

“Can Lenette vote?”

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because I am apparently still allowed some decisions.”

May you like

She smiled.

Good.
