Chapter 19 - ESTELLE LEARNS THE TRUST
At sixteen, Estelle attended her first beneficiary education meeting.
Arthur was retired.
His successor, Maya Lane, explained:
“You do not own thirty-nine percent of Bellamy Lodging.”
Estelle looked relieved.
“Dad already ruined that surprise.”
“Good.”
“You have approximately eleven percent economic interest through trust structures.”
“That sounds worse.”
“It means value.”
“Can I sell hotels?”
“No.”
“Fire Dad?”
“No.”
“Tragic.”
I laughed.
The protected thirty-nine percent had already changed through governance reform.

She learned:
Related-party review.
Trustee duties.
Diversification.
Taxes.
Conflict rules.
She hated all of it.
Good.
Then she asked:
“Was Lorna trying to steal my money?”
“No.”
“Really?”
“She wanted influence over decisions and wanted a related-party investment approved more easily. She also wanted you out of the household for personal reasons. Those things overlapped.”
“Did she hate me?”
“I think she resented you.”
“Why?”
“Because she believed love and importance had to be ranked.”
Estelle thought.
