Chapter 9 - THE GARDEN OF PEACE

Three years later.
Our five-acre estate in the quiet, green hills of Upstate New York was bathed in the warm golden light of a summer sunset.
A massive wooden deck extended from the back of our stone house, overlooking a private lake surrounded by pine trees.
Liam, now four years old, was chasing a golden retriever puppy across the grass, while our two-year-old daughter, Sophia, was sitting on a soft blanket near the garden, giggling as Maya showed her how to plant colorful tulips.
I stood at the outdoor grill, wearing an apron, cooking fresh steaks and vegetables for our evening family dinner.
Victoria Sterling and Dr. Aris—who had become our closest family friends and Sophia's godmothers—sat at the outdoor patio table, drinking white wine and enjoying the summer breeze.
"David!" Dr. Aris called out with a warm smile, raising her glass. "Remember when you told me in the ER that you were going to fix everything?"
"I remember," I laughed, walking over with a platter of fresh food.
"You didn't just fix it, David," Victoria said softly, looking out at Maya and the children playing in the sun. "You built a sanctuary."

I looked over at my wife. Maya caught my eye from across the lawn, standing up and brushing the garden soil from her dress. She walked over to me, her face glowing with health, peace, and absolute contentment.
She wrapped her arms around my waist, resting her head against my chest as we watched our children laugh and play under the open sky.
