CHAPTER 11
The morning sun brought little comfort,
as the weight of the mystery pressed down.
We identified the bank,
an ancient institution in the financial district.
It had survived for over a century,
guarding secrets of the city's elite.
I walked up the stone steps,
accompanied by Liam and two security guards.
The air inside was cool and quiet,
smelling of old paper and polished brass.
An elderly manager greeted us,
looking at the key with sudden surprise.
"This vault has not been opened,
in over twenty years,"
he noted,
checking his heavy ledger.
"It belongs to the Morgan estate,

registered under your father's name."
He led us down a winding staircase,
into the depths of the underground vault.
The steel doors were massive,
designed to withstand any disaster.
He found the matching box,
sliding it out with a metallic scrape.
"I will leave you in privacy,"
the manager said,
bowing his head politely.
My heart hammered against my ribs,
as I placed the key into the lock.
It turned with a heavy click,
revealing the contents inside.
There were no stacks of money,
or glittering jewels.
Instead,
there was a thick leather journal,
and a digital drive from the early days.
I opened the journal,
recognizing my father's elegant script.
The pages were filled with warnings,
detailing a secret organization called The Syndicate.
Ethan was just a tool,
a ruthless puppet chosen to replace my father.
Julian Vance was the true master,
controlling everything from the shadows.
"If you are reading this,
Emily,"
the journal entry began,
"I have failed to protect you."
"The Syndicate controls the board,
and they will stop at nothing to rule Apex."
Tears filled my eyes,
seeing my father's love and desperation.
He knew the danger he was in,
yet he tried to shield me until the end.
Liam looked over my shoulder,
his face darkening with anger.
"This changes everything,"

he whispered,
touching the digital drive.
"This drive contains the financial evidence,
to bring down Vance's entire network."
Suddenly,
the lights in the vault flickered and died.
Total darkness engulfed us,
followed by a sharp mechanical sound.
The heavy vault door began to swing shut,
moving with terrifying speed.
"Run,"
Liam shouted,
grabbing my arm instantly.
We lunged toward the closing gap,
slipping through just in time.
The door slammed shut behind us,
locking with a deafening thud.
May you like
Someone knew we were here,
and they wanted us buried alive.
