CHAPTER 30
The next morning arrived with a gray shroud of fog,
rolling in from the sea and obscuring the beautiful view.
We packed Clara’s small bags,
filling them with her favorite toys and clothes,
trying to maintain a sense of normalcy for her sake.
Our trusted friend,
Marcus,

arrived just before dawn in an unmarked vehicle.
He was a man of absolute loyalty,
having saved my life more times than I could count.
When he saw the black envelope on the table,
his eyes narrowed,
and he understood the gravity of the situation immediately.
He took Clara into his arms,
promising to guard her with his own life,
moving her to a hidden safehouse deep in the mountains.
I kissed my daughter’s forehead,
whispering words of love into her ear,
hoping she would not forget my voice.
As Marcus drove away,
disappearing into the thick white mist,
a piece of my heart went with them.
Liam stood next to me,
his arm wrapped securely around my waist,
providing the anchor I desperately needed.
We could not afford to grieve or be weak,
because every second wasted gave our enemy the advantage.
We walked down to the private docks,
where our high-speed boat was moored,
ready to cut through the rough waves.
The journey to the northern island would take several hours,
across a treacherous stretch of ocean known for its storms.
As Liam started the engine,
the powerful roar echoed against the coastal cliffs,
igniting a spark of adrenaline in my veins.
I checked our gear one last time,
ensuring the weapons were loaded,
and the tracking devices were fully operational.
We were no longer the helpless victims they once hunted,
we were warriors equipped with knowledge and resolve.
The boat surged forward,

slicing through the dark water,
leaving our peaceful life behind in the distance.
The wind was biting cold,
spraying salty water against our faces,
but we did not care.
My mind was focused entirely on the coordinates,
picturing the island that haunted my childhood dreams.
My father had built a facility there,
hidden deep beneath the rocky terrain,
intended to unlock the secrets of human potential.
Instead,
it became a chamber of horrors,
where innocent souls were tortured and broken.
As the hours passed,
the sky grew darker,
and heavy rain began to pelt the windshield.
The waves grew larger,
tossing our boat like a piece of driftwood,
testing Liam’s skills as a pilot.
He steered with expert precision,
navigating the crests and troughs of the angry sea,
his eyes locked on the radar screen.
Suddenly,
a massive shape appeared on the monitor,
looming out of the darkness just a few miles ahead.
It was the island,
a jagged tooth of black rock rising from the ocean,
surrounded by a crown of jagged reefs.
There were no lights visible,
no signs of life anywhere on its surface,
looking completely abandoned and dead.
But I knew better,
because the monsters preferred to dwell in the dark,
waiting for their prey to walk into their trap.
We guided the boat into a hidden cove,
where the water was slightly calmer,
shielded by high stone walls.
We tied the vessel to an old rusting pier,
stepping off onto the slippery stones of the island.

The air here smelled different,
thick with the scent of decay,
and the ancient metallic tang of blood.
I held my flashlight tightly,
clicking it on to reveal a narrow path,
leading up into the dense and tangled woods.
Every step we took felt heavy,
as if the island itself was rejecting our presence,
warning us to turn back before it was too late.
But there was no turning back for us,
May you like
because the only way to secure our future,
was to destroy the ghosts of our past.
