CHAPTER 10

Liam entered the room quickly,

his eyes scanning for danger.

He saw the package on my desk,

and the photograph in my hand.

Without saying a single word,

he walked over and pulled me close.

His embrace was warm,

a solid anchor in the rising storm.

"Tell me everything,"

he murmured softly,

releasing me to look at the evidence.

I showed him the old photo,

pointing to the mysterious man.

"This was delivered tonight,"

I explained,

my voice steadying.

"And the man on the phone,

he knew my name."

Liam picked up the tarnished key,

examining its intricate design.

"This looks like an old safe deposit key,

the kind they used decades ago."

He turned the photograph over,

reading the chilling message aloud.

"The past never truly dies,"

he repeated,

frowning deeply.

"Ethan could be orchestrating this,

even from behind prison walls."

"No,"

I responded,

shaking my head.

"The voice was different,

older and more refined."

We sat together at the large table,

spreading out the few clues we had.

Natalie joined us an hour later,

after receiving an urgent text.

She looked at the photograph,

her eyes widening in recognition.

"I know this man,"

she whispered,

tapping the image.

"He is Julian Vance,

a powerful shadow investor from Europe."

"He used to fund Apex,

long before Ethan took control."

A cold realization washed over me,

connecting the pieces of the puzzle.

My father had tried to cut ties with him,

which led to his ultimate downfall.

"Vance disappeared years ago,"

Natalie continued,

her expression grim.

"Everyone thought he was dead,

or hiding in exile."

"But he is back,"

I said,

staring at the cold eyes in the photo.

"And he wants something from us."

Liam looked at the key again,

realizing its potential significance.

"We need to find out,

what bank this belongs to."

"If your father hid something,

it must be crucial to stopping Vance."

The night wore on,

as we searched through old corporate archives.

Every document mentioned Vance's name,

but all his files were heavily redacted.

It was clear he had erased his tracks,

leaving only ghosts behind.

But he made one mistake,

he underestimated my determination.

I would not let him destroy,

the empire we had rebuilt with tears.

"We start tomorrow morning,"

I declared,

looking at my trusted friends.

"We find the bank,

and we unlock the secrets."

Liam held my hand tightly,

nodding in silent agreement.

The battle lines were drawn,

and we were ready to fight.
