CHAPTER 12
We stood in the dim corridor,
breathing heavily from the narrow escape.
The bank emergency lights kicked on,
casting a red glow over the stone walls.
"Are you alright,"
Liam asked,
checking me for any injuries.
"I am fine,"
I gasped,
clutching the journal and the drive to my chest.
"But we need to get out of here,
now."
We hurried up the stairs,
finding the main lobby in utter chaos.
The staff was running around,
screaming about a sudden system failure.

The manager looked at us in disbelief,
unable to explain the sudden lockdown.
We didn't wait for explanations,
pushing through the glass doors into the street.
The bright daylight felt like a shield,
but we knew we weren't safe.
We got into the waiting car,
ordering the driver to return to headquarters.
During the ride,
I looked at the digital drive.
It was small,
but it held the power to destroy empires.
"We need Daniel Pierce,"
I told Liam,
realizing his financial expertise was vital.
"He can decrypt this data,
before Vance realizes we have it."
When we arrived at Apex,
the atmosphere was tense.
Natalie met us at the elevator,
her face pale and worried.
"Emily,
Vanguard Holdings just launched a hostile takeover,"
she announced,
handing me a tablet.
"They are buying up every available share,
driving the price through the roof."
Vanguard Holdings was Julian Vance's front company,
moving faster than we anticipated.
He was trying to choke us financially,
forcing me out of my own company.
We gathered in the secure conference room,
summoning Daniel immediately.
He looked at the digital drive,
his eyes lighting up with professional challenge.
"This is an old encryption style,"
Daniel murmured,
connecting it to his secure terminal.
"It will take me a few hours,
but I can break it."
"Do it,"
I ordered,
feeling the walls closing in.
"Vance is trying to take Apex,

and we must stop him at all costs."
I walked to the glass window,
looking out at the city that felt like a battlefield.
Ethan had used physical terror,
but Vance was using financial warfare.
Both methods aimed to destroy my spirit,
but I refused to break.
Liam walked up behind me,
placing his hands on my shoulders.
"We survived Ethan,"
he reminded me gently.
"We will survive Vance too."
I nodded,
feeling the fire of defiance burning inside.
May you like
We were no longer victims,
we were warriors defending our home.
