Chapter 18 - The Gift That Restored A Billionaire's Soul

The afternoon sunlight poured through the tall arched windows of Grace's office,
casting a golden glow across the room.
Caleb leaned forward,
resting his forearms on the edge of the desk,
his expression turning thoughtful and tender.
"Grace,"
he said softly,
his voice dropping an octave.
"When I first met you,
you were working twelve-hour shifts, carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, and hiding in the shadows just to give me a moment of happiness on my birthday."
Grace looked down at her hands,
remembering the overwhelming humiliation of that night,
and how quickly everything had transformed.
"I was just doing my job,"
she murmured.
"You were doing something much more than that,"
Caleb corrected gently,
reaching across the desk to place his large, warm hand over hers.
"You were bringing humanity back into a house that had become nothing more than a cold corporate trophy."
Grace’s heart raced at the touch of his hand,
her fingers instinctively curling slightly beneath his palm.
"And you changed our lives forever,
Caleb,"
she whispered,
looking up to meet his intense gaze.
"You gave us safety, security, and a future we never even dared to dream about."
Caleb smiled,
sliding his hand up to cup her cheek with infinite tenderness,
his thumb brushing softly across her cheekbone.
"That was only the beginning,
Grace."
Before Grace could respond,
the office door swung open with a cheerful creak,
and little Lily marched in,
holding a messy piece of construction paper covered in blue paint and glitter.
"Mommy!
Mr. Caleb!
Look what I painted for the rose garden!"

Lily announced proudly,
holding up her masterpiece with both hands.
