Chapter 7 - THE DIGITAL LOGS

Late that night,
when the house was wrapped in deep darkness,
Andrés began his investigation.
Renata was sound asleep in the master bedroom,
breathing heavily from the wine.
Andrés slipped out of bed,
his movements silent as a ghost in the corridor.
He made his way to the home office,
closing the door without a single click.
He opened his personal laptop,
connecting to the home’s main security system.
He began to review the feed from the external cameras,
hoping to see who had visited the house.
To his surprise,
the video data for the past three months had been completely erased.
The archives were empty,
showing nothing but black screens and system errors.
However,
Andrés knew that security systems were rarely that simple.
The local drive was wiped,
but the cloud account still remained active.
He entered his old administrative credentials,
bypassing the basic user interface.
Within minutes,
he successfully gained access to the system logs,
the digital footprint of every action.
He scrolled through the lines of code,
his eyes narrowing at the timestamps.
Every single deletion had occurred during the daytime,
while he was away in the Sierra.
More importantly,
the logs revealed the source of the commands,
identifying the specific IP address.
All the deletions came directly from Renata’s personal laptop,
executed using her private profile.
She had systematically destroyed the evidence of her daily cruelty,
believing no one could recover it.
But Andrés smiled grimly in the dark,
downloading the recovery protocols.
He began to pull the deleted footage from the remote cloud server,
restoring the lost files one by one.
The screen flickered to life,
revealing the true horror of the past months.
He watched Renata scream at his mother,
forcing her into the small bedroom.

The digital trap was set,
and Renata had no idea she had left the keys behind.
