Chapter 14 - THE MOTHER’S CALL OF MADNESS
Three days passed in the shelter,
each day calmer than the last,
I helped Sarah with the cooking,
and cleaned the communal living room,
trying to keep my mind busy,
but on the fourth morning,
my phone rang with a known number,
it was my mother calling me,
I hesitated for a long time,
before pressing the green answer button,
Emily please listen to me,
her voice came through crying,
she sounded desperate and wild,
Logan is missing from the house,
the police came with a warrant,
and he ran away into the woods,
he is so angry with you now,
he says you destroyed his life,
you need to come back home,
we need to fix this together,
the lawyers say if you recant,
if you say the statement was false,
they will drop all the charges,
and we can be a family again,
I felt a cold rage explode,
inside my chest at her words,
we were never a family mom,
I said with a loud voice,
you let him beat me for years,
you watched him crack my skull,
and you still protect him now,
he is a dangerous criminal,
and you are his accomplice,
don't ever call me again,
I hung up the phone quickly,
my heart was hammering violently,
I blocked her number immediately,
realizing the truth with clarity,
she would never save me from him,
she would gladly let me die,
