Chapter 9 - THE STREETS OF DAYTON OHIO

The morning air was brisk and cool,

blowing against my face gently,

helping to clear my foggy mind,

I walked down the cracked sidewalk,

holding my backpack strap tightly,

feeling every step in my head,

the staples felt tight and strange,

like metal bugs on my skin,

I did not know where to go,

I had no close friends left,

Logan had driven them all away,

with his scary erratic behavior,

and his constant loud threats,

he had isolated me completely,

making me dependent on the family,

but that isolation was over now,

I walked toward the downtown area,

where the bus station was located,

the city was waking up slowly,

cars were driving past me fast,

people were rushing to their jobs,

living their normal happy lives,

unaware of the girl walking by,

with blood dried in her hair,

and a broken heart in her chest,

I found a small quiet diner,

the sign said Rosie's Kitchen,

it smelled like bacon and grease,

I sat in a corner booth alone,

ordering a hot cup of tea,

and a plate of plain toast,

the waitress looked at my bandage,

she looked at my pale face,

are you alright sweetie,

she asked with genuine concern,

I managed to smile a little bit,

I am fine thank you,

I lied to her softly,

because I didn't want to explain,

I didn't want to see the pity,

I just wanted to sit in peace,

and plan my next move carefully,

May you like

before Logan got out of jail,

and the real hunt began.
