Chapter 14 - THE COLLAPSE OF THE DEFENSE TEAM

With Thomas Miller's testimony echoing through the silent courtroom,

the defense's fragile house of cards collapsed into total ruin.

Victoria's court-appointed public defender stood up slowly,

looking entirely defeated as he addressed the bench.

"Your Honor,

in light of the overwhelming evidence presented by the prosecution,

the defense rests without closing arguments."

Chief Judge Eleanor Vance looked down from the elevated bench,

her expression stern and unyielding.

"Does the defendant,

Victoria Sterling,

wish to make a statement to the court before sentencing is deliberated?"

Victoria rose slowly from her chair,

her knees shaking beneath her designer skirt,

her face pale and lined with exhaustion.

She looked across the courtroom,

her eyes finally locking onto mine for the first time in weeks.

"I...

I only wanted to secure our future,"

she whispered,

her voice cracking with pathetic desperation.

"Julian needed a start in life,

and you...

you had your military career."

"You didn't care about Julian's future,

Mother,"

I spoke up clearly,

standing tall in my military dress uniform as the entire courtroom turned to look at me.

"You cared about power,

control,

and maintaining an illusion of wealth that was built on a foundation of lies and murder."

Victoria opened her mouth to speak,

but no words came out,

her shoulders slumping forward in total defeat.

Chief Judge Eleanor Vance picked up her wooden gavel,

her voice ringing out with absolute finality.

"Victoria Sterling,

on the counts of conspiracy,

fraud,

and accessory to murder,

this court sentences you to twenty-five years in federal prison without the possibility of parole."

The sharp crack of the gavel echoed like a gunshot through the room,

signaling the definitive end of the Greenwich dynasty's reign of deception.
