Chapter 8 - THE SECRET AUDIT OF GREENWICH ESTATES

The following morning,
the Greenwich estate looked entirely different under the harsh,
gray light of a drizzling autumn dawn.
Federal forensic accountants had cordoned off the expansive study,
turning my late father's private sanctuary into a high-security document analysis center.
Boxes of paper records,
ledger books,
and encrypted hard drives were stacked neatly across the mahogany desk where Arthur Sterling had spent his final years working in quiet solitude.
I walked into the study wearing my full Class A military dress uniform,
the ribbons and medals gleaming proudly against my dark jacket.
Agent Marcus Vance looked up from a massive spreadsheet,
nodding respectfully as I approached the desk.
"Colonel Sterling,
the preliminary forensic audit is complete,"
he announced,
handing me a thick,
leather-bound summary report.
"And the findings are far worse than even your initial intelligence suggested."
"Elaborate,
Agent Vance,"
I requested,
opening the report to the first tabbed section.
"Your stepfather didn't just embezzle funds from your father's commercial properties,"
Vance explained,
pointing to a highlighted transaction chain.
"He systematically looted your grandmother's historic trust fund in Boston,
transferring millions into offshore accounts registered under shell companies in the Cayman Islands."
I traced my finger along the financial trail,
my jaw tightening with suppressed fury as I saw my grandmother's lifelong legacy being bled dry by greed.
"And my mother?"
I asked quietly.
"She signed every single authorization form,"
Vance confirmed without hesitation.
"Her digital signature and corporate seal are stamped across every fraudulent transfer document in this archive."
"She wasn't just a bystander,
Colonel."
"She was the mastermind behind the family's financial survival strategy."
I closed the leather-bound report with a sharp thud that echoed through the quiet study.
"Get the paperwork ready for immediate asset seizure,"
I ordered,
my voice carrying the absolute authority of a commanding officer in the field.
"Every property,
every bank account,
and every luxury asset purchased with those embezzled funds is to be legally repossessed by the estate."
"It will be done by noon,
Colonel,"
May you like
Agent Vance replied,
saluting sharply before turning back to his team of forensic investigators.
