Chapter 18 - THE MILITARY INTELLIGENCE DEBRIEFING

Back at the Pentagon three days later,

the secure briefing room was filled with senior military commanders and intelligence directors who had monitored the entire Greenwich operation from a distance.

I stood at the head of the briefing table,

dressed in my immaculate Class A uniform,

as the massive wall screens displayed the final forensic summaries and federal asset recovery ledgers.

"Colonel Sterling,"

the Director of Military Intelligence said,

standing up from his chair and nodding with profound respect.

"Your handling of the Sterling estate crisis was executed with textbook precision and operational brilliance."

"Thank you,

Director,"

I replied,

saluting crisply.

"It was simply a matter of applying intelligence protocols to a domestic threat."

"And the asset recovery?"

another senior officer asked,

adjusting his glasses.

"Fully completed,"

I reported smoothly.

"The entirety of Arthur Sterling's estate has been successfully secured and transitioned into a charitable veterans' foundation."

"The corrupt legal operatives are facing mandatory federal sentences,

and the civil conspirators are currently serving time in federal custody."

The room erupted into a quiet murmur of approval,

acknowledging the sheer magnitude of what I had accomplished while maintaining my active-duty responsibilities.

"You took a massive personal risk,

Sienna,"

the Director added,

using my first name for the first time since the briefing began.

"Dealing with corrupt family dynamics under the microscope of federal law enforcement is no small feat."

"In my line of work,

Director,"

I smiled slightly,

letting my guard down for a single,

fleeting moment,

May you like

"family dynamics are often far more dangerous than foreign adversaries."

"Because foreign adversaries wear uniforms you can actually see."
