Chapter 1 - The Illusion of the Gilded Engagement

The morning sun rose slowly over the misty valley,

casting a pale,

golden light upon the ancient stone pillars of the grand estate.

Ivy stood quietly by the large arched window,

her slender fingers gently tracing the delicate,

intricate patterns of the velvet curtains.

She could hear the distant,

melancholic rustle of the autumn leaves outside,

a sound that usually brought her a sense of profound peace,

but today,

an unsettling,

suffocating weight rested heavily upon her chest.

Her engagement to Kane was supposed to be the glorious union of the century,

a sacred bond that would secure the future of the northern territories.

Yet,

as she stared into the polished surface of the tall mirror,

she did not see a happy,

radiant bride.

She saw a ghost,

a fragile girl trapped in a ruthless political game she never wanted to play.

The luxury car was already waiting down in the courtyard,

its sleek,

polished black surface reflecting the overcast grey sky above.

Today was the long-awaited day of her final wedding dress fitting,

an event that should have been filled with laughter and joy.

Instead,

a cold,

biting dread crept through her veins,

whispering dark warnings that her soul could not ignore.

She walked slowly down the grand marble staircase,

her soft footsteps echoing ominously in the empty,

silent hall.

No one was there to say goodbye,

no one to offer a warm word of comfort or reassurance.

Kane had been incredibly distant for weeks,

his letters grew short,

his voice turned cold whenever they spoke briefly on the phone.

She tried to convince her aching heart that it was just the stress of the ceremony,

the heavy burden of his new responsibilities as the future Alpha of the Crimson pack.

But deep down,

her inner wolf knew much better,

sensing a violent fracture in their bond before it was even fully forged.

The driver silently opened the door for her,

his expression completely blank,

utterly devoid of the deep respect he used to show her.

She stepped into the dark vehicle,

the overwhelming scent of expensive leather surrounding her.

As the powerful engine roared to life,

she looked back at the fading estate,

wondering if she would ever see it the same way again.

The long journey to the city was entirely silent,

the green landscape blurring into a monotonous streak of grey.

Ivy closed her eyes tightly,

trying to find solace in the memory of her mother,

a woman of immense,

untamed strength who lived far away in the old territories.

Her mother had explicitly warned her about the ambitious Crimson pack,

about their hidden greed,

about their deeply rooted cruelty.

"They look like absolute royalty,

Ivy,"

her beloved mother had told her,

"but they carry the vicious hearts of scavengers."

At that time,

Ivy had passionately defended Kane,

believing his sweet words were genuine,

believing he was entirely different from the rest of his ruthless family.

Now,

as the car carefully navigated the crowded streets of the elite bridal district,

those forgotten words echoed in her mind like a dark curse.

The grand boutique finally came into view,

a magnificent establishment with towering glass windows displaying the world's most beautiful gowns.

It was proudly named Lumi Bridal,

a legendary place reserved exclusively for the high-ranking wolves of the continent,

where promises of eternal love were sold for an absolute fortune.

Ivy stepped gracefully out of the car,

the cool wind instantly hitting her pale face,

making her shiver despite her heavy wool coat.

She pushed open the heavy,

ornate glass doors,

the soft chime of a silver bell announcing her quiet arrival.

The interior was truly breathtaking,

filled with cascading white silk,

glistening crystal chandeliers,

and the soft,

sweet aroma of fresh white roses.

But beneath the surface beauty,

there was a strange,

suffocating tension,

a heavy silence that felt entirely wrong for a house of celebration.

The boutique assistants did not rush forward to greet her as they usually did,

instead,

they stood nervously in the shadows,

their eyes cast downward,

actively avoiding her confused gaze.

Ivy walked directly toward the private fitting room,

her heart hammering violently against her ribs,

knowing with absolute certainty that something was deeply wrong.

She pulled back the heavy silk curtain of her dressing area,

expecting to see her custom-made gown waiting for her on the mannequin.

Instead,

she found the space completely empty,

the golden hangers stripped bare.

A cold sweat broke out on the back of her neck,

as she turned around to demand an explanation from the staff.

But before she could speak a single word,

the heavy silence of the boutique was shattered by the sound of approaching footsteps,

heavy,

May you like

arrogant,

and entirely unfamiliar.
