Chapter 16 - The Final Legacy

As the sun began to dip below the horizon,
painting the Texas sky in vibrant strokes of crimson and gold,
I closed my laptop and packed my briefcase.
The office was silent and still.
I walked out past the empty desks of the executive suite,
taking in the clean,
polished lines of the corporate home we had built from scratch.
The dark memories of that Tuesday afternoon—the vanilla cake with its golden number nine,
the gray sheath dress under the credenza,
the whispered excuses—felt like a lifetime ago in another universe.
They no longer carried any emotional weight.
They were merely old chapters in a book that had already been rewritten from cover to cover.
I stepped into the private elevator and pressed the lobby button.
As the doors slid shut,
my reflection stared back at me in the polished steel panel.
There was no trace of hesitation in my eyes.
Only strength,
wisdom,
and an unbreakable resolve.
The elevator descended smoothly to the ground floor.
I pushed open the heavy glass doors and stepped out into the cool evening air.
The city lights were beginning to twinkle across the Dallas skyline,
vast and glittering against the gathering dusk.
I walked toward my car,
breathing in the deep,
crisp air of total independence.
The empire was secure.

The betrayal was buried.
And my journey forward had only just begun.
