Chapter 6 - THE HERO IN THE SHADOWS

Mia sat in her room,

Her phone buzzing on her bed,

She hadn't told anyone,

But the video she recorded was still there,

She had uploaded it to a private cloud,

She was only ten,

But she knew what she had seen,

She knew that what Elena did was wrong,

Her mother had told her not to get involved,

"Mind your own business, Mia,"

But this was her business,

The maid,

Sarah,

Had always been kind to her,

When everyone else was busy with the wedding,

Sarah had taken the time to listen,

To play,

To be a human being,

Mia opened the app on her phone,

She looked at the video again,

She felt a sense of power,

She had the truth in her hands,

She heard a knock on her door,

She hid the phone under her pillow,

"Come in,"

It was her father,

He looked tired,

"Mia, we need to talk,"

He said,

He sat on the edge of the bed,

"About the wedding,"

"I know, Daddy,"

She said,

"It was bad,"

"It was more than bad, sweetie,"

He sighed,

"What you did,

Recording that,

It was very brave,

But it was also dangerous,

Elena is a powerful person,"

"She was,"

Mia corrected him,

"Now she's just a liar,"

Her father smiled,

A genuine, sad smile,

"You’re right,

But be careful,

Okay?

Don’t post anything else,

Don’t talk to reporters,"

"I won't,"

Mia promised,

She knew that the adults would handle the rest,

But she also knew that the truth had been spoken,

And that was enough,

She looked at her bookshelf,

She had so many stories about heroes,

People who stood up for what was right,

She had never thought she would be one,

She felt a little taller,

A little stronger,

She realized that even if you are small,

You can have a big impact,

She heard her mother calling from downstairs,

"Dinner's ready!"

She stood up,

She smoothed her hair,

She walked down the stairs,

The world outside was chaotic,

But in her house,

It was safe,

She sat at the table,

Her parents were talking,

Discussing the scandal,

She didn't pay attention,

She just ate her dinner,

She felt a sense of relief,

The weight of the secret was gone,

And the world was a little bit clearer,

She looked out the window,

The stars were out,

Bright and steady,

She thought about Alexander,

She hoped he was okay,

She hoped he found someone nice,

Someone who didn't need to play games,

She finished her meal,

She helped clean up,

It was a normal night,

But everything had changed,

She had learned that the truth is the most powerful weapon of all,

May you like

And she was ready to use it again,

If she ever had to.
