Chapter 13 - THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM

The night passed slowly,

filled with anxiety and the constant sound of rain hitting the window.

Victoria and Clara spent the hours preparing their final strike against Arthur.

They downloaded the contents of the ledger onto a secure cloud drive,

creating multiple copies.

They also recorded Lily's testimony,

detailing her kidnapping and Arthur's direct involvement.

"This is enough to put him away for life,"

Clara stated,

looking at the digital files on her laptop.

"But we need to ensure he doesn't escape before the police arrive,"

Victoria noted,

knowing her uncle's slippery nature.

She called an old family friend,

District Attorney Richard Sterling,

using Clara's untainted phone.

Sterling had been a loyal ally to her father,

and he was shocked to hear Victoria's voice.

"Victoria!

Thank God you are alive!"

Sterling exclaimed through the line.

"Arthur told everyone you perished in a tragic fire tonight!"

"It was no accident,

Richard,"

Victoria revealed,

her voice cold and precise.

"He tried to murder me,

just like he murdered Julian."

"I have the proof,

and I need you to bring the police to the corporate headquarters tomorrow morning."

"I will be there,

Victoria,"

Sterling promised without hesitation.

"We will bring this monster down once and for all."

As she hung up the phone,

Victoria felt a wave of relief wash over her body.

She looked at Clara,

who was watching her with admiration and respect.

"Tomorrow,

it all ends,"

Victoria said softly,

extending her hand to the maid.

Clara took her hand,

squeezing it firmly in solidarity.

"Tomorrow,

May you like

we win,"

Clara replied.
