Chapter 3 - The Divorce Ultimatum

The next morning, Julian Sterling sat in his high-rise office, sipping espresso.
His secretary walked in, handing him a thick folder.
"Sir, Miss Chloe's legal representative is downstairs," she announced.
"Tell them to bring the signed papers up," Julian ordered, not even looking up.
He expected Chloe to beg, to plead for a settlement, or to cry for mercy.
Instead, the door opened, and a top-tier attorney from the Vance Law Firm walked in.
Julian frowned, recognizing the man as one of the most expensive lawyers in the country.
"Why is a Vance attorney representing a gutter orphan?" Julian asked, amused.
"My client has signed the divorce papers, Mr. Sterling," the lawyer said coldly.
He placed the documents on the desk, already signed in bold, black ink.
Julian smirked, looking at Chloe's signature.
"Good. She knew she had no chance against my family's legal team."
"However," the lawyer continued, "there is a clause you must read."
"She waives all alimony. She wants absolutely nothing from you."
Julian laughed out loud, feeling a sense of ultimate victory.
"She's prouder than I thought. Foolish, but convenient for me."
"But she did leave a message for you, Mr. Sterling," the lawyer added.
Julian leaned back in his chair, crossing his legs arrogantly.
"Oh? What does the peasant have to say?"
"She said that the next time you see her, you will be on your knees."
Julian's face hardened, a flash of annoyance washing over him.
"She's delusional. She has nothing. She is nothing."
"We will see about that, sir," the lawyer said, bowing slightly before leaving.
Julian threw the folder into his drawer, dismissing the strange warning.
His phone rang immediately after. It was his mother, Victoria.
"Julian! Have you heard? The Vance Group agreed to meet us on Friday!"
"That's incredible, Mother! This is the deal that will make us untouchable!"
"Make sure you wear your best suit, Julian. We must impress the Vance CEO."
"Don't worry, Mother. The Sterlings are moving up in the world."
He completely forgot about Chloe, his mind consumed by greed and ambition.

He had no idea that the trap had already been set.
And he was walking right into it.
