Chapter 8 - The Panic of the Sterlings

"You can't do this!" Julian cried, desperation taking over his voice.

"We invested everything into this project! We owe fifty million dollars!"

"I know," Chloe smiled coldly, tapping her leather-gloved hand on the table.

"And Apex Bank has just called in those loans. You have twenty-four hours to pay."

Julian felt the room spinning.

"Twenty-four hours? That's impossible! We'll go under!"

"Then I suggest you start packing your trash, Julian," Chloe mocked his own words.

"Just like you told me to do on that glass-covered floor."

Victoria tried to summon her old arrogance, pointing a trembling finger at Chloe.

"You think you're so smart? We will sue you! We will expose your cruelty!"

Chloe laughed, a clear, beautiful sound that chilled Victoria to the bone.

"Sue me with what money, Victoria? You won't even be able to afford a public defender."

"Every asset you own is tied to those loans. The house, the cars, the estate."

"Everything will be seized by tomorrow afternoon."

Julian fell to his knees, exactly as Chloe's lawyer had predicted.

"Chloe, please! I beg you! I was wrong! I was blind!"

"My mother forced me to do it! She hated you from the start!"

Victoria gasped in betrayal, looking at her own son throwing her under the bus.

"Julian! How dare you!" Victoria screamed.

Chloe watched the pathetic display with pure amusement.

They were turning on each other like wild dogs in a cage.

"Get them out of my sight," Chloe ordered the security guards.

The guards grabbed Julian and Victoria, dragging them out of the office as they screamed.

The revenge was sweet, but Chloe wasn't done yet.

The final act was about to take place at the Vance Gala.
