Chapter 22 - My career review

The military inquiry closed before Michael’s criminal case did.

I was cleared of deliberately misusing government resources to target him.

My secure call had been properly scheduled.

Leaving it connected during an armed threat was deemed reasonable.

The protective response was initiated by personnel on the line, not commanded by me.

But my prior text remained.

Try me.

My superior called me into his office.

No ceremony.

He said:

“That was stupid.”

“Yes, sir.”

“Do you threaten family members with authorities you do not command?”

“No, sir.”

“You did.”

“Yes, sir.”

Then:

“Rank follows you home whether you want it to or not.”

I knew.

I had forgotten.

He issued formal counseling.

Not career destruction.

Not nothing.

I signed it.

Later Tyler asked:

“They wrote you up?”

“In a sense.”

“For what Dad did?”

“No. For what I did.”

He looked confused.
