Chapter 7 - My rank was not a secret

I was a brigadier general in the United States Army.

One star.

General officer.

My promotion had been public.

Michael could have verified it in minutes through ordinary channels.

That became the obvious question.

Why didn’t he?

His answer:

He believed the real Brigadier General Amanda Mitchell was another person with the same name.

Possible?

Technically.

Amanda Mitchell is not a unique name.

But he had attended my colonel promotion ceremony seven years earlier.

Mom had framed the photograph.

Michael stood in it.

He also received the family email announcing my selection for general officer.

Tyler found it later.

Michael replied at the time:

That’s something. Congratulations.

He knew I had been selected.

So why claim fraud?

His attorney adjusted.

Michael knew I had been selected but believed I had “misrepresented whether the promotion was finalized.”

Now we were entering linguistic gymnastics.

The issue was no longer what he believed when I was a colonel.

It was what he knew before he walked into that kitchen armed.

That answer was still coming.
