Part 33

The next morning brought a beautiful, golden sunlight that flooded through the large windows of our kitchen.

I woke up earlier than usual, driven by a restless, happy energy that I hadn't felt in a very long time.

As I brewed a fresh pot of coffee, Alexander walked into the room, already dressed in his comfortable weekend clothes, his eyes instantly finding mine.

Before I could even greet him, he wrapped his arms around my waist from behind, pressing a warm kiss to my shoulder.

"I couldn't sleep much," he confessed near my ear, his arms tightening around me. "Every time I closed my eyes, I kept imagining a little boy or girl running around this house."

I turned around in his embrace, resting my hands against his chest, feeling the steady, comforting beat of his heart.

"Me too," I admitted softly. "It feels surreal, doesn't it? After everything we endured, after all those sleepless nights wondering if we would ever find peace again."

Alexander’s expression turned deeply tender, his thumb gently wiping away a stray strand of hair from my face.

"We paid our dues to the darkness, my love," he said firmly. "The universe is finally returning the joy that was stolen from us."

Just then, we heard soft footsteps coming down the stairs, and Sofia appeared, wrapped in an oversized knitted sweater, looking radiant despite her slight morning fatigue.

Ethan followed closely behind her, carrying a glass of water and watching her every step as if she were made of the finest, most precious glass.

Seeing them like that, completely devoted to one another and grounded in their love, made me realize that our healing was finally complete.
