Part 44

A week before the official due date, the weather took a sudden, dramatic turn, bringing a heavy spring thunderstorm that lashed against the windows.

The sky was a dark, dramatic charcoal gray, and the steady, rhythmic sound of rain falling on the roof created a cozy, insulated atmosphere inside our home.

Alexander and I were sitting in the living room, enjoying a quiet evening, when my phone rang sharply, cutting through the sound of the thunder.

It was Ethan, his voice tight with a mixture of intense adrenaline, nervousness, and overwhelming excitement.

"It’s time," Ethan announced, trying his best to keep his voice steady but failing slightly. "Sofia's contractions started an hour ago, and her water just broke. We are heading to the hospital right now."

Alexander was on his feet before Ethan could even finish his sentence, his protective instincts immediately kicking into high gear.

"We are on our way, Ethan," Alexander said firmly, his voice calm and steady, acting as a pillar of absolute strength for the young man. "Drive safely. Take your time on the wet roads. We will meet you there in twenty minutes."

As we threw on our heavy rain coats and hurried out to the car, the cool, rain-slicked air felt incredibly charged, full of a wild, beautiful energy.

Alexander drove through the stormy streets with absolute focus and precision, his hands steady on the steering wheel as the windshield wipers swept away the heavy rain.

I sat beside him, my heart pounding with a fierce, joyful anticipation, knowing that the moment we had prayed for was finally here.

The long journey through the darkness was officially ending, and the dawn of our grandchild's life was about to begin in the midst of the spring storm.
