Part 36

That evening, after the emotional breakthrough at the clinic, Alexander insisted on hosting a special dinner at our home.
He spent hours in the kitchen, carefully preparing a rich, comforting meal while music played softly in the background.
I watched him from the kitchen island, deeply moved by how much lighter his posture was compared to the rigid, defensive stance he had carried during our years of conflict.
"You're a man transformed, Alexander," I remarked, taking a small sip of my drink as he expertly chopped fresh herbs.
He paused, looking up at me with eyes full of a profound, mature love that had only grown stronger through our shared trials.
"I am a man who finally has his family safe," he replied softly, walking around the counter to stand directly in front of me. "Seeing that little heartbeat today made me realize that all the pain, the betrayal, and the sleepless nights were worth it just to reach this destination."
Before I could answer, Ethan walked into the kitchen, looking a bit hesitant but holding an old, beautifully bound leather notebook.
"Alexander, do you have a minute?" Ethan asked, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. "I was hoping I could ask you for some advice."
Alexander’s face immediately softened into a warm, welcoming expression, and he gestured toward the stools at the island.
"Of course, Ethan. What's on your mind?"
Ethan sat down, opening the notebook to reveal neat pages of handwritten notes, budgets, and sketches of a nursery layout.
"I want to make sure I'm completely prepared," Ethan admitted, his voice earnest and full of determination. "I want to build a perfect life for Sofia and the baby, but sometimes I worry I don't know enough about being a father."

Alexander placed a large, reassuring hand on Ethan’s shoulder, looking at him with the pride of a father who had watched his son grow into a good man.
"The fact that you are already worrying about it proves you will be an incredible father," Alexander said gently. "Being a protector isn't about knowing everything, Ethan. It's about showing up every single day with an open heart."
